As we move into December, many of us instinctively begin reviewing our goals — tallying up what we achieved, where we fell short, and what that says about us. For years, I did the same. I judged my worth by checkboxes and milestones.
But this year looked different.
Instead of falling short on goals… I chose to let go of goals I knew I could achieve — goals that were well within reach, goals past versions of me would have pushed through no matter the cost.
And surprisingly, releasing those goals created more transformation than achieving them ever could.
Today, I’m sharing the two big goals I consciously walked away from in 2025, why the decision felt both terrifying and liberating, and how letting go invited more clarity, alignment, and expansion into my life and business.
Why Your Goals Should Evolve as You Evolve
We often treat goals like promises — fixed, rigid, and immune to change. But if you’re growing, expanding, healing, or shifting your identity, your goals should shift too.
This year, I finally acknowledged something I’d been resisting:
The goals that made sense for who I was didn’t necessarily fit who I had become.
Stepping into new seasons requires new metrics of success. And sometimes that means acknowledging that a goal that once felt exciting now feels heavy, misaligned, or rooted in an outdated version of ourselves.
Letting go wasn’t quitting — it was honoring my evolution.
The Difference Between Falling Short and Walking Away
There’s an enormous emotional difference between:
Not achieving a goal,
and
Intentionally walking away from a goal.
Walking away requires honesty. It requires confronting the ego. It requires trusting that you are allowed to change your mind — even if you’re halfway there, even if you’ve invested time, energy, money, or identity into the outcome.
I didn’t let go because I couldn’t hit the goals. I let go because achieving them would have taken me further from the life I’m actually trying to build.
How I Knew a Goal No Longer Fit the Current Version of Me
When a goal no longer fits, you start to feel it:
- It drains you instead of energizing you.
- It feels like obligation, not desire.
- It reflects who you were, not who you’re becoming.
For me, the signs were clear. The pursuit felt misaligned. The timeline felt forced. And my excitement — the spark that fuels meaningful work — had faded.
It wasn’t that I didn’t want growth. It’s that the shape of the growth needed to change.
Pressing Pause on a Dream That Was Within Reach
One of the hardest decisions I made this year was pausing a dream I could have achieved by pushing just a little harder.
That’s what made it painful.
That’s what made it brave.
When a dream is possible, it’s tempting to chase it simply because you can — not because you should.
But hitting a milestone that no longer aligns with who you are is not success.
It’s self-abandonment dressed up as achievement.
Pressing pause gave me room to ask deeper questions. And that space cleared the path for opportunities that felt more aligned, expansive, and sustainable.
Letting Go Isn’t Losing — It’s Creating Space
he moment I released the goals that no longer fit, something unexpected happened:
life expanded.
My energy returned.
My creativity opened up.
My intuition grew louder.
My business aligned more fully.
Letting go isn’t giving up.
It’s clearing space for what’s meant for you.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is change direction when you’re already halfway there.
